ATLANTA (Feb. 26, 2024) — The Georgia Senate has approved Senate Bill 10, also known as the "Safe Streets Act," sponsored by Sen. Emanuel Jones (D–Decatur). The bill aims to address reckless driving behaviors on Georgia's roads, particularly targeting illegal drag racing and reckless stunt driving.

Sen. Jones, with a background of three decades in the automotive industry, expressed his satisfaction with the bipartisan support for SB 10, stating, "After three decades in the automotive industry, I take immense pride in witnessing the passage of SB 10 with overwhelming bipartisan support. This legislative milestone is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to enhance road safety throughout the state. By cracking down on illegal drag racing and reckless stunt driving, we are sending a clear message that such dangerous behaviors will not be tolerated. Our aim is to make roads safer for all Georgians, and this legislation is a significant stride towards achieving that goal."

The bill introduces comprehensive measures to combat dangerous driving practices and includes provisions for addressing illegal drag races and reckless stunt driving. It also enhances penalties for those engaging in reckless driving activities.

SB 10 will now move to the Georgia House of Representatives for further deliberation. Sen. Emanuel Jones represents the 10th Senate District, covering parts of DeKalb and Henry County. He can be contacted at 404.656.0502 or via email at emanuel.jones@senate.ga.gov.
